PneumoADIP Team

GAVI’s PneumoADIP is a dedicated team of experts and specialists based at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and is supported by a $30 million grant from GAVI Alliance. Our team draws experience from a variety of sectors and are committed to ensuring lifesaving pneumococcal vaccines reach the children who urgently need them.

Mr. Agostino is the Budget Specialist for PneumoADIP. Prior to joining the team he worked for Wachovia Securities Private Client Group, where he focused on budgeting and performance reporting. A graduate of Towson University in Maryland, with a degree in finance, Mr. Agostino is originally from New York.

Ms. Bear manages the strategic information and monitoring and evaluation systems for PneumoADIP and is also responsible for knowledge management. She joined PneumoADIP with a decade of experience working with developing countries to implement and evaluate health and development programs. She has lived and/or worked in Africa, South East Asia, India and the Middle East, and speaks three languages. Ms. Bear has a Masters of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Ms. Boyd is an Administrative Coordinator for the PneumoADIP team, providing administrative support to the entire team. Prior to joining the team, Ms. Boyd worked in administration for 15 years in the Division of Disease Control.

Before joining PneumoADIP, Ms. Buss held a research fellowship in the department of Molecular Microbiology and Bioinformatics at Chiron Vaccines, Italy and has also worked in international business and trade in Washington, DC. She holds a degree in biochemistry and an MPH from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Ms. Buss is a Communications Manager for PneumoADIP.

Thomas Cherian

WHO Liaison to ADIP Team

Dr. Thomas Cherian is a scientist in the Initiative for Vaccine Research at WHO, coordinating a team responsible for research on vaccines against respiratory and vectorborne pathogens. Previously, Dr. Cherian was a Professor of Paediatrics at the Christian Medical College in Vellore, India. He is also a Senior Associate in the Department of International Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore. He has authored/coauthored more than 90 scientific articles and book chapters.

Mr. Coles manages all the contracts for the PneumoADIP team. Before joining PneumoADIP, he worked as a Program Manager for the CDC Foundation in Atlanta, Georgia where he was responsible for the Global Health Programs. He also served as a Health Extension Volunteer with the U.S. Peace Corps in The Gambia, West Africa from 2000-2003.

Dr. Knoll has over 15 years of experience in the design, conduct, and analysis of clinical trials and epidemiologic studies. She spent 13 years at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the NIH and, most recently, 3 years at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University. Her clinical trials experience includes close working relationships with many large and mid-sized vaccine manufacturers.

Dr. Johnson is an Epidemiologist with PneumoADIP. She recently completed her Ph.D. in Global Disease Epidemiology and Control, with a Certificate in Vaccine Science and policy at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health where she previously completed her MPH degree. She has nine years of experience in public health and epidemiologic research, including clinical trials and the provision of technical assistance in epidemiology, disease surveillance, and health information systems internationally.

Ms. Kim is the Communications Manager for PneumoADIP. She has a background in journalism, research, small business management, and community-based programs. Most recently, Ms. Kim worked as a consultant for the PneumoADIP website. Prior to that, she was a research assistant at JHSPH Center for Prevention and Early Intervention.

Before joining PneumoADIP, Mr. Kvist worked as the Global Communication Manager for Novartis in Switzerland. Mr. Kvist came to the PneumoADIP team with more than 20 years of experience from the pharmaceutical industry. For the past 15 years, Mr. Kvist has worked with communications on a global level where his work has included scientific symposia program development, publication planning, and public relations.

Before coming to Johns Hopkins as an Associate Professor in the Department of International Health, Dr. Levine spent five years at the CDC followed by three years with the US National Institutes of Health. Dr. Levine has authored/coauthored more than 50 original research papers and book chapters, including more than 25 on the subject of meningitis and pneumonia and their prevention by vaccination.

Ms. Moisi is the Surveillance Officer for PneumoADIP. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D in International Health, Disease Prevention and Control at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health where she received a master’s degree in biostatistics. Prior to her appointment as a Surveillance Officer, she worked as a Research Assistant for pneumoADIP in the U.S., in Kenya, and in Mali. She helped to assess and improve surveillance networks and data collection techniques.

Ms. Moncrieffe-Foreman is the Communications Manager for PneumoADIP. She has a background in journalism, health communications, and community-based programs. Most recently, Ms. Moncrieffe-Foreman worked as a consultant for the American Lung Association of Minnesota. Prior to that, she spent ten years working as a journalist and communications consultant in the United States, Tanzania, and the United Kingdom.

For the past five years Dr. O'Brien has been a faculty member and the Associate Director of Infectious Disease Studies for the Center for American Indian Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Her research has focused on vaccine preventable diseases of childhood, with a particular emphasis on S. pneumoniae. Dr. O'Brien is a consultant to WHO on pneumococcal conjugate vaccine trials.

Ms. Privor-Dumm spent 17 years working in industry in various marketing, operations and finance positions prior to joining the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Lois is the Director, Vaccine Access and Implementation for PneumoADIP, in addition to her role as Health Director, Communication and Strategy for the Hib Initiative. Ms. Privor-Dumm holds a Masters in International Business from the University of South Carolina.

Damian Walker

Health Economist

Damian Walker, PhD, is a health economist with 10 years experience of performing economic evaluations of health care programs in low- and middle-income countries. He has published more than 40 peer-reviewed articles. Damian is the lead author of the forthcoming WHO guidelines on standardising economic evaluations of immunization programs. Damian has been appointed as an expert on many technical working groups on the cost and cost-effectiveness of health technologies. He is a co-convenor of the Campbell and Cochrane Economics Methods Group, with particular responsibility for issues related to low- and middle-income countries. Damian holds an Honorary Lectureship at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, is an International Visiting Faculty Member of the James P. Grant School of Public Health, BRAC University, Bangladesh, and is an adjunct Scientist at the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B).
